Wood  Technology course   was started in 1982 at  Government Polytechnic college Kannur. This course is unique and only one of it’s kind in India . This course is designed to fulfill the long felt need of wood based Industries. The subject covers forest and forestry, raw materials for Wood and Paper industries, wood seasoning and preservation, saw milling, veneering, manufacture of wood products like particle board, M D F, value added products like Mouldings , Cornices, skirting’s, decking’s etc; Ply woods, BB, FD, Synthetic Resin manufacturing, pulp and paper manufacturing, Specialty papers and boards, Interior design Engineering etc.

Being  having the  large opportunities in pulp and paper industries, this course is renamed as Wood and Paper Technology in 1991. The student’s intake is 43. There is great demand for the passed diploma holders in Wood and Paper Technology and the placement is 100 %.

The job opportunities are in interior fields, estimation, Interior design and drawing, particle board and MDF industries. All students are placed through campus interview by placement cell. Alumni of department is running number of industries in India and Abroad.

Number of students are paving there path by placed in public sector like Hindustan News print limited, Bank Note Paper Mill India Ltd ,Mysore e t c by cracking the respective exams and experience
